As an international student, there are two main types of cross-border payments that are required. The first is the tuition fees to your institution, and the second is your student expenses, such as dorm room rent, food expenses, and more. Payments and transfers must have a foreign exchange element in order to be eligible. Rewards may only be redeemed on bank transfer payments (e.g. credit card, etc. payment types are excluded). With every eligible transaction you make via Flywire, you can earn rewards when you transfer funds abroad as follows:

Example – Tuition scenario
Rhea used Flywire pay her first term fees of ₹ 9 lakhs (or ₹ 900,000) directly to the Flywire University. Since the amount was above the threshold of ₹ 0.83 lakh (or ₹ 83,000), Rhea was entitled to earn 2,250 reward points, equivalent to ₹ 2,250.
Later, if Rhea makes a tuition payment of ₹ 500,000 (less than ₹ 830,000) for the next term, she cannot claim a discount. However, if she makes a tuition payment of ₹ 9 lakhs (or ₹ 900,000), she can utilize all her points and claim a discount of ₹ 2,250.
Example – Living expenses scenario
In addition to the university fees of ₹ 5 lakhs (or ₹ 500,000), Rhea used Flywire's Student Services solution to fund her living expenses abroad. As such, she made a monthly transfer of ₹ 1 lakh (or ₹ 100,000) for six months. Accordingly, every month, she earned ₹ 500 (0.5% of 100,000) as a reward. Rhea now has a total of 8,000 reward points (unclaimed 5,000 from tuition plus 3,000 as she earned 500 rewards for each of the 6 transfers from student expense transfers).
She can redeem the entire 8,000 points while making the next tuition transfer of more than ₹ 9 lakh (or ₹ 900,000). Suppose she makes a student expense transfer of ₹ 2 lakhs (or ₹ 200,000), she can claim a discount of ₹ 1,000 (0.5% of 200,000).
